We have seen a drop of a little over 5% year over year. This bucks a trend of 24 months of growth. Wondering if others are seeing flattening or drops in their business. Times are tough for everyone but this is the first it has impacted us. But maybe it has been all along and our growth would have been better had the economy not been so bad.

We have not been open long enough to know about a drop but our first year has been very good and we expect to have a doubling of the business for 2009. Where we opened there was a lack of options and we filled a niche. A lot is about providing the things customers want.

We started with tanning but have continued to expand into other areas because once people are in the salon they are ready to roll. I have brought in a lot of sale items for skin and body and those continue to increase every month. We are gaining an audience for them.

Since my last post we lowered our prices a bit with out "bailout discount" and people seem to love it. We are now trending 11% over preveous year and that is moving up still. Now is the time to look at pricing and try to find ways to package things or discount things to make it less painful in these tough times.

I think so, I managed a private salon and got completely screwed over. I think it had a lot to do with the economy and the fact that the owner only knew how to spend. They still owe me over $2000.00. I haven't been able to work in a salon since then. Ive been out of the salon business for almost a year. I have had many offers but I'm so nervous plus tips are not what the use to be people cannot afford to give extra. It really stinks i miss my clients and I miss being a cosmetologist but its too much of a risk for me at the moment and i have built my reputation and i just cant see my self working for a chain salon in my area not that there is anything wrong with it our salons in the area just are not the best and have terrible reps.

Back up a bit after a long stretch of not so good months. I think the economy is getting better it is the only reason I can think of. We tried everything else to improve but I guess we just couldn't stop the recession completely. Happy that the worst seems over for us anyway.

I have spoken to many salons who are thriving in this economy. How many of you are taking the RIGHT action! Here's how one Salon Owner ignores this recession and made great profits just this week... http://tinyurl.com/dzg2b3

Yes!

Well, kinda...

We've seen a drop of about 7%. Not too bad considering.

And hi by the way. I'm new here.

Wow this was started 2 years ago and is still an issue today?  I'd have to say the economy is having an impact.  I think it depends on the industry though.  Tanning is getting hit a little harder I would say and I see many salons up for sale.  Hair is also taking a beating but I think they can weather it a little better.  People need to get their hair cut, they don't need a tan (though they should be health benefits!) and can wait till the sun is out.

I know we are holding steady but it has not been easy.  This year they say the economy is picking up but had a better start last year.

Yeah still an issue.  We are holding our own but worse off than when this post was first done.  I see some signs of a turn around though.  The past few weeks have helped make our march.

What signs do you see?  I wish I saw some signs this year.  I was hopefully last year. At least we are not anywhere near a point of concern.  We have a good client base, just would like to do some new things but need to wait until we get a little busier

Yeah we have had month after month of increase since we bought our place about 2 years ago.  Last month we were down a little and this month looks like we will be down about 20%.  Hoping to make it up in April or finish this month strong.
