Sun exposure for as little as ten minutes a day can prevent a number of vitamin D related conditions and reduces and/or prevents them.

Yes you are right as we all know that In reasonable doses it has long been known to: help your body to generate essential vitamins - primarily Vitamin D

New research suggests that Vitamin D3 has the potential to lower the risk of common cancers (e.g colon, breast and ovarian) by up to 50%.

Not just new research, but old research too! It interesting to note that cancer rates are higher in the higher latitudes where natural sunlight is much less prevalent.
